Steve Talbot's Year in Industry
As part of the Year in Industry scheme, Steve spent a year as a Research Assistant with Lite-On Ltd in Northumberland, where he developed software for electronic reliability calculations. His work on this project was recognised through national engineering prizes.
EEF Contribution to the Business Award 2000

The Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) give an award to the Year in Industry student who they believe has made the greatest contribution to the business of his or her placement company. The judges were impressed not only by the monetary savings possible with Steve's "Design for Reliability" software, but also by the fact he single-handedly developed then implemented a project of such complexity.
Young Engineers for Britain "Working in Industry Awards" 2000

The annual Young Engineer for Britain competition recognises hard work and innovation of young people in the field of engineering. The panel of judges were impressed by the amount of effort Steve put into his Year in Industry project to ensure that it was a success, awarding him the national runner-up prize.
Nortel Networks Scholarship

As one of the top thirteen Year in Industry students in his academic year nationally, Steve received a Nortel Networks scholarship.
Institution of Electrical Engineers award
The Institution of Electrical Engineers (now the Institution of Engineering and Technology) award a number of undergraduate scholarships for engineering excellence. Although unsuccessful in applying for a scholarship in 2000, Steve received an award under the terms of the Donald Taylor Bequest as a highly commended runner-up.
Year in Industry scheme qualifications
In common with all Year in Industry students in the northern region, Steve received a Certificate in Industrial Training from the University of Durham and a CREST Gold Award.
